Tavares records 15 points in 96-78 win vs. Panathinaikos

Walter Tavares scored a whopping 15 points, one assist and 10 rebounds during his 28 minutes of play as Real Madrid’s hard fought 96-78 win secured them a place in the playoffs against the Greek team Panathinaikos. Tavares was the player who scored the highest amount of points and played the most minutes in Real Madrid’s win Monday evening at the Wizink Center.
During the 2019/2020 season, the center from Cape Verde has played in 52 games having scored 357 points and 29 assists. Tavares joined the Real Madrid club in 2017 after having played in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawkes.
In the first quarter Tavares scored 10 points contributing to Real Madrid’s total of 27. Facundo Campazzo and Tavares have a good chemistry on the court, as often times one receives the assist of the other. At about five and half minutes in Tavares went in for a slam dunk claiming two points for Real Madrid and Campazzo received the assist. Where as at almost four minutes in the first quarter Campazzo scored a three-pointer and Tavares received the assist. In the third quarter Tavares scored five more points to Real Madrid’s 21, rounding out his total of 15 for the match. At four and a half minutes into the third quarter Tavares received a pass from Felipe Reyes boosting them to a five point lead of 60-55.
Real Madrid recently defeated Unicaja in a 68-95 win which claimed their 28th Copa del Rey Championship title on the 16th of February in Malaga. This was a big win for Pablo Lasso, Tavares and the entire Real Madrid club after previously defeating Bilbao 93-83 in the Quarter Finals and Valencia 91-68 in the Semifinals. During the Copa del Rey Final Tavares scored 12 points, two assists and received four rebounds during his 19 minutes played. Only a minute and a half into the first quarter Tavares scored off an assist from Campazzo, while in the third quarter he received a pass from Gabriel Deck to get the slam dunk.
Real Madrid are second in the Liga Endesa table with 16 wins and 32 points behind Barcelona, while in the Euroleague Real Madrid are second behind Anadolu Efes Istanbul with 20 wins.
Tavares is getting closer each game to reaching a 400 then 500 point milestone, the star of Real Madrid continues to prove himself as a key player to the continuing success of the team.
