FALMOUTH — In Nantucket’s 17-3 boys lacrosse win over Falmouth Academy, goaltender Keagan Downey received the opportunity to play up on offense, a different view of the field than what he’s used to.

Nantucket cliched the Cape and Islands League title for Varsity Boys Lacrosse, having not lost a league game in the past three seasons.

Nantucket recorded nine shots on goal and 13 total face off wins. The Whalers came into today’s game prepared to take home the Cape and Islands League title while maintaining possession throughout the first half.

Spencer West clocked in the first goal for the Whalers to put the Nantucket squad in the lead 1-0.

Ben Lombard #16 for Nantucket scored at just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter assisted by #13 Spencer West for a one timer along the backside of the net.

The Whalers were once again looking strong on offense in the second quarter bringing in seven goals with #2 Ty Harnishfeger scoring within the first minute.

Falmouth Academy fought for possession scoring at just over two minutes left in the second quarter with #9 Dylan Kadison recording the shot for the Mariners.

“We’ve got to develop our offense a little bit more, we’re shallow and don’t have a lot of depth,” said Nantucket coach Sam Alosi.

The Whalers had the chance to offer some flexibility in their lineup allowing their goalie Kegan Downey to step outside the goal and play up on offense. Defender #5 Cam Willet had the opportunity to score in the fourth quarter with under four minutes remaining in the game.

Falmouth Academy recorded another two goals in the fourth quarter coming from #4 Kiric Hallahan at 9:48 remaining and Falmouth’s third goal of the game from #10 Connor Jones at 7:12 left.

“It feels really good it’s something that thankfully through this program that we can expect out of our team year in and year out, but I’m not really focused on that. I just want to go out there and get a [sectional] title,” said Captain Spencer West of Nantucket.

Nantucket sits at 14 wins and two losses while currently going undefeated in the Cape and Islands League. Falmouth Academy has three wins for the season with a total of 11 losses.
