MASHPEE –– Rockland girls basketball came away with a 58-41 win over Mashpee on Tuesday night. Junior guard Ashley Keleher recorded 23-points for the Falcons and Amiyah Peters, an eighth grader scored 10-points in Mashpee’s loss to Rockland.
Junior forward Caroline Elie was a major role in tonight’s win as she led the Bulldogs with 27-points.
With 1:50 remaining in the first half, the Falcons were trailing by just six points. Elie and freshman Julia Elie scored two-points each for the Bulldogs with under a minute left sealing a 10-point first half lead.
“At moments we lacked either the confidence or the inner will to understand that you have to go to that next level against the next level teams and with experience we’re going to take our lumps,” Mashpee head coach Chris Tresca said.
The Falcons fought hard against a defensively tough Rockland team including four eighth-graders on the roster.
“We had some other players in that are still getting used to the varsity tempo and being able to communicate,” Rockland head coach Diana Mitchell said.
Rockland’s Madison Blonde, a senior guard, scored a total of eight points, while senior Nicole Blonde followed up with six points.
“They're probably the best team we’ve played all year,” Keleher said. “With their transition. We have a lot more ability this year, but still a young team.”
