Barnstable Boys Hockey Defeat Dennis Yarmouth 7-1

HYANNIS - Jack Longueil and Barnstable Raiders hockey came away with a big 7-1 win over the D-Y Dolphins Wednesday night. Longueil recorded his first varsity hat trick, one in the second and two goals scored in the third period.

Barnstable (6-2) had a rocky start with trouble connecting the puck, then Sean Jones (two goals) knocked one in assisted by Will Martone five and half minutes into the first period.

Barnstable showed their strength, the majority of scoring in the second period with four goals. Barnstable served four penalties including a five minute penalty which allowed a gap for D-Y (1-5-2) to get on the board, while the Dolphins had two penalties.

“We really just wanted to stick to our basics and get pucks in deep, beat up on them and wear them down a bit taking advantage of some of those bounces,” said Barnstable coach Tim Grace.

D-Y showed perseverance coming up short of a goal until Josh Benoit got one in the back of the net from Griff Feeley at 7:39 off a power play in the third period.

“He (goaltender, Connor Higgins) had one or two shots in the first period and a few in the second period, one being a breakaway from the red line in. We were working hard for the shutout, then we had that power play goal,” said Grace.

Barnstable’s impressive offense was also supported by Brendan Jones and Chris Cordeiro with a goal each in the second period.

“We came in short handed with seven starters out with the flu, playing with 13 kids so when your playing a division one team and your don’t have all your horses stealing one early would have been nice,” said D-Y coach Lew Alberti.

Barnstable looks ahead to Archbishop Williams after their non-league win over the Dolphins.
